What is the Kusam Klimb?
The Kusam Klimb is a wild and rugged 23 km loop heading up and over Mount H’Kusam and down the Stowe Creek watershed. Starting at sea level, participants pass through some of the most spectacular scenery on Vancouver Island with views of mountain peaks and the Johnstone Strait as they negotiate their way over the well-developed trail. While the trail is open for year-round hiking, an organized event is held once per year on the summer solstice. (In 2010, the Klimb will be held on June 19th.) The Kusam Klimb draws participants from around the world hoping to conquer the mountain! Are YOU tough enough? To view our detailed trail guide, please click here.
Trail Development
"Bill's Trail" was developed through 15 years of dedication and selfless construction by local resident Bill West-Sells. To read more about Bill's story, please click here.
Mt. H'Kusam History
Mt. H'Kusam has been a recreation site for over 100 years. To learn a bit about its history and read the stories told by some of Sayward's local 'old-timers,' please click here.
Behind the Scene
We are a 100% volunteer non-profit organization operating under the wing of the Sayward Futures Society, and rely entirely on participant registrations, donations and sponsorships. Any excess funds after food, first aid, t-shirt costs, finishing prizes, trail preparations, insurance and other costs directly related to the event will go towards Search & Rescue, trail improvements and future event preparations.
